It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ROEECA) leads UN-Habitat’s efforts to promote sustainable urban development across the region by supporting national and local governments in advancing inclusive, resilient, and resource-efficient cities. ROEECA is being established to facilitate regional cooperation, policy development, and capacity building to strengthen urban systems, including sustainable solid waste management and circular economy approaches.
