At the same time, cultural heritage remains a strategic asset for recovery, social cohesion, identity, livelihoods and sustainable development. Its safeguarding therefore requires a combination of emergency protection, technically sound conservation and restoration, strengthened institutional capacities, risk preparedness and the transmission of professional and traditional skills.
