Covering nearly 86,000 hectares and accounting for approximately 0.6% of the world's mangrove area (SBB, 2023; FAO, 2023), they provide critical habitat for biodiversity, support fisheries, strengthen climate resilience, and sustain coastal livelihoods and community well-being in areas where nearly 90% of the country's population resides (ABS, 2024).
